Maternal and Neonatal Health Safety Collaborative

The Maternal and Neonatal Health Safety Collaborative is a three-year programme led by NHS Improvement and supported by the Patient Safety Collaboratives (PSC).  It launched in February 2017 and each maternity and neonatal unit in the Oxford PSC region is allocated to a separate wave.

  • Oxford University Hospitals – Wave 1 (March 2017)
  • Royal Berkshire – Wave 2 (March 2018)
  • Frimley Health – Wave 2 (March 2018)
  • Milton Keynes University Hospital – Wave 3 (March 2019)
  • Buckinghamshire Healthcare – Wave 3 (March 2019)

The aim of the collaborative is to:

  • improve the safety and outcomes of maternal and neonatal care by reducing unwarranted variation and provide a high quality healthcare experience for all women, babies and families across maternity and neonatal care settings in England
  • contribute to the national ambition, set out in Better Births of reducing the rates of maternal and neonatal deaths, stillbirths, and brain injuries that occur during or soon after birth by 20% by 2020
  • train and support maternity and neonatal services in quality improvement methodology, measurement for improvement and systematic change.
